Muscle pain in your legs: Is it good or bad?

Team Jumbo Visma recovering in compression socks.

 What is muscle pain?

You can see muscle pain as a natural process in which your body becomes stronger. When you are training, small cracks appear in your muscles. Because of these damage, water is retained which can cause your muscle to swell. Fortunately, your muscles recover completely by themselves, and as a result, they work together even better. Our muscle fibers eventually get thicker, but it never gets any more: the number of muscle fibers you have is genetically determined.

With extreme loads you can also suffer from muscle pain during exercise. Your muscles cannot immediately lose waste such as lactic acid. This creates an accumulation of waste, and you suffer from muscle pain.

"52% of people feel a bit of muscle soreness."

Why do I have muscle aches?

Exercise Muscle pain can occur with efforts that you normally do not do much or that are very heavy. But it can also occur if you have been in the same position for too long. Even tensions and flu can lead to muscle pain.

Inactivity If you are often in the same position while working or studying, it is still smart to bring a little variety to your working position. To prevent painful or tired legs during a long working day, STOX work socks can also be the solution! These ensure that the blood circulation in your legs is optimal, and that your muscles receive the maximum amount of oxygen. This is due to the compression technology, where pressure is given from your ankles upwards: blood (and moisture) are pushed back upwards again. The socks are also extremely sturdy and comfortable. You no longer have to worry about cold feet or sweaty feet at work: the so-called Moisture Wicking Fabrics ensure that your feet stay at a nice temperature.

How do I get less muscle pain after exercise?

In the end, pain is not pleasant at all, and it is something we all want to prevent. Now prevention is not always possible, but it does decrease!

You get a lot out of a good warm up. Your brain can prepare itself, your heart can gradually increase the oxygen circulation and your muscles can relax. Because you go from a resting state to a state of exertion, it is wise to warm up at least 10 minutes.

But cooling is just as important! This way the waste can leave your body, and you will suffer a lot less from muscle pain.

How do I get rid of muscle pain?

Sometimes muscle pain is therefore not inevitable. Your muscles often become weaker when you have muscle pain, which is not very motivating to start exercising again. So you prefer to recover as quickly as possible. The most important thing is peace! After a heavy effort you must give your body time to recover well.

The most effective way to get rid of your muscle pain is "active rest". Instead of waiting in bed until you no longer feel pain, it is better to keep moving a bit. This is how you stimulate your blood circulation and waste products can be removed more quickly.

The STOX Recovery Socks also help you recover quickly from muscle aches, because important functions of these socks are the removal of waste, blood and moisture. The compression provides pressure from the ankles upwards, so that blood can be returned quickly upwards. Moisture does not get a chance to get out of the blood vessels due to the pressure. And in addition to a quick recovery from muscle pain, the socks also help you recover quickly from injuries, shin splints, calf and achilles tendon problems!

Is exercise without muscle pain good?

Heavy efforts lead to muscle pain. So if you have muscle aches, this means that your body will become stronger. It is certainly not bad, as long as you take the time to recover. But if you barely experience muscle pain after a workout, that does not mean that training has had no effect! You have probably built up your training in a good way. The advantage is that you can take it again next time, without having any pain from your previous training session.

In addition, it may well be that you train to improve your fitness or lose weight, for example. Then there are all other things that you can tell if your training has been effective for your own purpose. Without pain you can undoubtedly make great progress!
